Drenched in lurid neon and jazzed by handheld camera work, this Hong Kong cops-and-mobsters flick is even more ambitiously stylized than is usual in this genre. Yet Beast Cops tries to be too many movies at once, zigzagging schizophrenically between John Woo-style shoot-'em-up, moody meditation on police corruption, and raffish comedy about an odd coupla roommate cops (Wong and Wong). By the time the story lines start building toward something — namely, a climactic machete duel that gives new meaning to the term chopsocky — you no longer especially care. C
