The Wild Wild West (1999)

Timed to cash in on the upcoming WWW movie starring Will Smith, this Wild Wild West boxed set features three rarely seen episodes (a skimpy one per cassette) from the original TV show's first season. Among them is the series premiere, introducing Robert Conrad as James T. West, a post- Civil War James Bond. Aided by amusingly futuristic gadgets — including a horse-drawn carriage with an ejector seat — the ultramacho West and master-of-disguise partner Artemus Gordon (Ross Martin) take on a colorful array of villains. The best: diminutive Michael Dunn as evil Dr. Loveless, a recurring nemesis throughout the show's four seasons. Yet only Loveless would enjoy a collection this small. If CBS plans to release more adventures, it would do well to corral a boxed set. B
