Digital effects and Henson-shop creatures inject new-technology sizzle into this TV movie of the Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland. Talky but engaging, the production retains a bookish quality as the big-name cast savors the author's topsy-turvy wordplay and bizarre characters. The best supporting players are Martin Short, who gives the Mad Hatter that alternate-life-form weirdness he emits so easily, and Miranda Richardson as the Queen of Hearts, a deranged monarch more like her Queen Elizabeth in the Black Adder series than her Queen Mab in last year's similar-looking Merlin.
