A fiery mainstream jazz pianist when he wants to be, Terrasson is also an innate searcher, and that's who's in charge here. In What It Is he swaps riffs with saxist Michael Brecker and guitarist Adam Rogers on ''Le Roi Basil,'' gives Pink Floyd's ''Money'' a darkly cool air, and goes tastefully electric on his Fender Rhodes. To cause further happy stylistic confusion, he closes with an exotically jazzy arrangement of Ravel's ''Bolero.'' It's a variety show with its restless heart in all the right places. B+
