The veteran N'awlins septet has never strayed too far from its mission: to throw brass knuckles into bumptious beats and boot everyone's rump in the process. On their latest album, Buck Jump produced by avant-jazz keyboardist John Medeski the band comes out with horns a-blazing, kicking it second-line style on ''Old School,'' stirring up a sticky rumba on ''Pet the Kat,'' and turning Marvin Gaye's ''Inner City Blues'' into a menacing midnight creep through the French Quarter.
