It's hard to choose this loopy thriller's most dubious plot turn. Maybe it's when an on-the-skids writer (Petersen) gets picked up from an Atlantic City gutter by a Mob enforcer (Wincott) who wants the writer to teach him about books and, well, life. Or maybe it's when the writer falls in love with the gangster's girlfriend (Lane). Or maybe it's when the writer reveals he's working undercover for the cops. Filled with noirish shadows and sax solos, Gunshy takes itself so seriously it doesn't even rate as junky fun. D+
