The case at the core of Cinderella Affidavit, a brisk legal thriller, which starts with a suspected cop killer, becomes more tangential and less interesting as its diverse cast of attorneys and crooks grows increasingly human. Lawyer-turned-writer Fredrickson shows grit — and an astute sense of humor — as he skewers the entire criminal class system, blue- to white-collar. But his democratic gaggle of likable sleazebags can't overcome either the arbitrary plot twists or the endless courtroom details. B
