While compiling amusing lingo describing L.A.'s fame-seeking ''Wannabeasts'' — such as noguls (powerless moguls) and Wams (waitress-actress-models) — Coerte V.W. Felske (The Shallow Man) goes one shallower in this tedious Hollywood morality tale. Shy Überproducer Sydney Swinburn approaches struggling screenwriter and manic social classifier Heyward Hoon with a Faustian bargain: Heyward will pimp his beautiful gal pals to Sydney in exchange for career glory. Even if you suspend disbelief (studio honchos lacking for hot dates?), Felske cheapens the deal with Word's version of a laugh track (hysterical mirth greets narrator Heyward's every odd comment) and characters as superficially rendered as Heyward's tiresome buzzwords.
