Tellingly, Reporting Live is the memoir of a high-profile career in the chauvinistic rat race of CBS News, organized by the presidencies of the last 25 years rather than by personal milestones. Lesley Stahl's vivid, edgy account of her tough ascent from Dan Schorr's Watergate backup ''slave'' to chief White House correspondent to Diane Sawyer's replacement on 60 Minutes (''I was the OB — the other blonde'') makes cursory concessions to her home life as the wife of a clinically depressed writer, Aaron Latham (Urban Cowboy), and her private insecurities as a workaholic babe in a man's world (''Deep down I must have thought I was my hair''). With near ruthless abandon, she always manages to put the news first. Not that there's anything wrong with that. B+
