Now that Martial Law has made Sammo Hung a Stateside name, it opens up the fan base for his Hong Kong flicks — thoughonly hardcore chopsocky connoisseurs could love the 20-year-old relic Magnificent Butcher about feuding kung fu academies, what with its bleary picture and cartoonishly bad dubbing. Yet even here Hung shows us his stuff: an agility amazing for one of such ample girth and a comic persona that converts even his deadliest duels into slapstick ballet. C+
