''EDtv'' takes a look at unexpected fame -- The Ron Howard directed film stars Matthew McConaugh and Jenna Elfman

Imagine a film about the rise (and fall) of MTV doofus Jesse Camp and you'll get a feel for this modern fable. Matthew McConaughey, in Dazed and Confused mode, stars as a hapless video clerk whose life is made into a TV show. Though less sinister than The Truman Show, EDtv (out March 26) struck a chord with its cast. ''Matthew, Ellen DeGeneres, Elizabeth Hurley...all have had a taste of being the center of attention,'' says director Ron Howard. ''People think that if you get fame, your problems go away. You just get a whole new set of problems.''
