Third Eye Foundation is Matt Elliot, a DJ-sample shuffler from Bristol, England, home to fellow DAT farmers Portishead and Massive Attack. But where his neighbors cobble stalking beats and paranoid ambiance into pop songs, Elliot makes them ends unto themselves, and the result, You Guys Kill Me, is a dense weave of scissored rhythms and slithering tape loops that reads like a soundtrack to some great lost surrealist film. Who knew repetition could be so endlessly surprising? A-
