Solomon Burke was one of the chief architects of '60s soul, equally commanding as a gospel-steeped shouter and a yearning romantic balladeer. The two late-'60s albums that comprise this reissue, King Solomon/I Wish I Knew, catch Burke a couple of years past his hitmaking peak but nonetheless deliver a generous serving of the volcanic intensity that makes him one of R&B's seminal performers.
