CESAR ROSAS Soul Disguise (Rykodisc) The solo debut of Los Lobos' goateed frontman is a straight-ahead album of pulsing MexiCali blues and border soul. Rosas strips away the ambient Mitch Froom-produced ornamentation of the last two Lobos records and returns to a simpler roots-rock style. While Soul lacks the adventuresome experimentation of competing Los Lobos side project the Latin Playboys, it proves there's still life left in three rousing chords and an accordion. B
