So much for Fox's hopeful prediction that There's Something About Mary would be ''the # 1 rental comedy of all time.'' The theater-of-cruelty blockbuster/Cameron Diaz vehicle rented a handsome, though unspectacular, 60 copies per store, making it the No. 1 rental comedy since...November's Dr. Dolittle. And don't be fooled by Mulan's chart-topping sales performance. Disney's latest animated epic topped its competition by selling a mere 9.3 copies per store -- a pittance compared with the debuts of Hercules (58 copies per in 1998) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (86 in '97).
