Two houses have just bought books due out early next year that will link the Bard to business. Simon & Schuster has acquired Shakespeare on Leadership, to be written by Columbia University professor John Whitney and Shakespearean director Tina Packer. ''Whitney's able to extrapolate from [the plays] really practical information,'' says Fred Hills, the S&S senior editor who acquired the title for what sources say was around $300,000. At the same time, Talk Miramax Books, the books division of Tina Brown's Talk Media start-up, has made Shakespeare in Charge: Making Your Play in Business one of its first acquisitions. It will be written by former U.S. arms negotiator Ken Adelman and onetime Lockheed CEO Norman Augustine. ''Ours is a commercial-management guide based on Shakespeare's psychological intelligence,'' says Jonathan Burnham, editor in chief of Talk Books, who paid a rumored $100,000 for the title. ''May the best one win.''
