Given his prescient work with sound collages and rhythmic pulses, is minimalist composer Steve Reich the father of electronica? This anthology, on which techno DJs overhaul Reich's recordings, makes clear their debt yet is a remixed blessing. Drum-and-bass renovations of ''Eight Lines'' and ''Piano Phase'' (by Howie B. and D*Note, respectively) are inventive, and Mantronik's hip-hop revamp of ''Drumming'' reworks the piece for the street-beat era. But other tracks bury the beautiful simplicity of Reich's work in blippy gimmickry or are simply dull. B
