Russell marches over too-familiar ground as a futuristic military man bred from birth to be a killing machine. Deemed obsolete, he's dumped on a desolate planet and rescued by spaceship-crash survivors, whose humanity rubs off in time for him to defend them against genetically souped-up fighters. With its best ideas taken from The Terminator, Rambo, and Shane, Soldier lacks originality, but its videogame-style violence sure does fill up a TV screen. C+
