The tenor sax legend both stretches out and comes home in an appealing-yet-artful package that might well broaden his fan base. He deviates from previous albums by exploring covers like the Costello-Bacharach tune ''God Give Me Strength.'' He also touches personal roots by revising his '60s ''hit'' ''Forest Flower,'' in its first new recording in decades. Soulfully abetted by drummer Billy Higgins, bassist Dave Holland, and guitarist John Abercrombie, Lloyd triumphs. A-
