Updating a 1958 Rod Serling script, this futuristic Western set on a dust-choked earth pits a sheriff (Lang) against a lynch mob led by a brutish town boss (Perlman). Since the prisoner comes from a ghettoized Native American sector, the stage seems set for a classic Serling morality play, a la The Twilight Zone. But all that emerges from the stylized murk is a skeleton of a drama. C-
