The idea of pop stars fronting a multilingual, nine-movement choral symphony is bound to elicit smirks. But as composed by Jonathan Elias, The Prayer Cycle's exquisite, soaring world-music voices dissipate all defenses. Israel's Ofra Haza and Pakistan's late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan mesmerize on their duet, ''Forgiveness,'' Mali's Salif Keita soulfully weaves with Alanis Morissette, while honey-voiced James Taylor and guitarist John Williams meld with ''Grace.'' Soothing, haunting music for jangled psyches. A-
