THE FLINTSTONES IN VIVA ROCK VEGAS A look back at how Bedrockers Fred and Wilma became a modern stone-age family
Witness the big bang of The Flintstones' prehistoric universe. That's bachelor Fred (The Full Monty's Mark Addy) wooing debutante Wilma (3rd Rock From the Sun's Kristen Johnston) in this Steven Spielberg-produced prequel to the infamous 1994 flick. Shooting in California's San Fernando Valley in the summer heat, Johnston is sucking it up to look smitten. "All the costumes had corsets to make you look cartoony," she says. "You couldn't eat because you couldn't get back into it. I ended up losing 12 pounds." (May 12)
NUTTY 2: THE KLUMPS The prof is out there--with JANET JACKSON
That other Fatboy Slim returns in Nutty 2: The Klumps, the sequel to Eddie Murphy's '96 smash. Joining the cast is another heavy hitter: Janet Jackson, as a fellow professor sweet on Sherman Klump. But thanks to Jackson's un-divalike behavior, like volunteering to audition for the part (her first since 1993's Poetic Justice), it's the crew that's in love. "With Janet, you kind of forget who you're dealing with," says director Peter Segal (Tommy Boy). "I told Eddie, 'She's so normal,' and he said, 'Yeah, normal for a mega-superstar.'" (July 28)
THE ROAD TO EL DORADO Branagh and Kline are on guard as cartoon con men
Long before they teamed up for Wild Wild West, Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh (crossing swords above) signed up for DreamWorks' Latin-flavored cartoon comedy The Road to El Dorado. They're 15th-century Spanish con men (no accents) who wind up conquistadors of sorts in the New World. Though the score is performed mostly by Elton John, Kline and Branagh get one comical number, "Tough to Be a God," which drew inspiration from a certain sitcom. "I wanted with them a feeling like the show from TV, Friends," says French-born codirector Eric "Bibo" Bergeron, "where Chandler and Joey are so funny." (March 31)
