But even the die-hard, information-wants-to-be-free idealists of the Net have to concede that the digital signature is on the wall, and that this first major conjunction of old and new media will hardly be the last. Sighs Jamie Zawinski, a member of the team that built the Netscape browser (now, perhaps not coincidentally, owned by AOL), "When you've seen one stifling transnational media conglomerate, you've seen them all."
