PINK FLOYD THE WALL (1982, Columbia Music, 95 mins., not rated, $31.98) Regardless of what you think of this groundbreaking mixed-media extravaganza (personally, I've never been a big fan), there's no denying the brilliance of this deluxe edition. The picture itself -- a new wide-screen hi-def transfer from the original interpositive -- captures director Alan Parker (Angela's Ashes) and designer Gerald Scarfe's (Disney's Hercules) nearly narrativeless imagery in all its crystal-clear glory. And the sound is both bombastic and subtle (when Bob Geldof's Pink starts going mad, the audio swirls around the room) -- perfect for a movie that is essentially a long-form music video. Remastered to Dolby Digital 5.1, it'll make all those years experiencing it on VHS seem like you were living with earmuffs on. The disc also includes commentary from Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and Scarfe, a pair of documentaries, stills, and the original theatrical trailer. Like it or not, this film is a crucial bit of both movie and music history -- and this is the way to experience it. A -- Marc Bernardin
