Who's engaged and who's splitting up the week of Feb. 11, 2000

EXPECTING Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 30, and actor Michael Douglas, 55, announced Jan. 28 that they're expecting their first child. The soon-to-wed couple were engaged Jan. 1. Her reps declined to say when the child is expected, and also denied reports that she'll convert to Judaism, Douglas' faith. Douglas has a son, Cameron, 21, with his first wife, Diandra, from whom he's legally separated.

ENGAGED Lisa Marie Presley, 32, announced her engagement Feb. 1 to alt-rocker John Oszajca, 25. It will be her third marriage, his first. Elvis' daughter was divorced from Michael Jackson in '96.

DEALS Arnold Schwarzenegger, 52, announced Jan. 25 that he's cut ties with Planet Hollywood, the restaurant franchise he'd co-owned and promoted since its 1991 launch. The star said he sold his stake in part because of the financial performance of the movie-themed chain, which recently reorganized under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

SPLITS Bryant Gumbel's estranged wife, June, 51, filed for legal separation Jan. 14. The couple, who wed in 1973 and have two children, have lived apart for more than two years. In her filing, she asked the 51-year-old Early Show co-host for $4,000 in ''emergency relief,'' as well as $4,000 a month. Bryant's attorney, Stanley Arkin, said the CBS newsman is ''already paying a very large sum of money.''

INDICTED Grammy-winning rap star Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) was indicted Jan. 31 on assault charges for allegedly stabbing record exec Lance ''Un'' Rivera, 33, Dec. 2 at a Manhattan club. He could face up to 22 years in prison. His reps have repeatedly denied Carter's involvement.

INJURED Slaughterhouse-Five author Kurt Vonnegut, 77, was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a Jan. 30 blaze at his Manhattan home. At press time, he was in ''critical but stable'' condition at a New York hospital.

DEATHS Sci-fi author Alfred Elton van Vogt, 87, of complications related to pneumonia, Jan. 26, in L.A. The Canadian-born van Vogt's influential 1939 story ''The Black Destroyer'' foreshadowed the space creatures in Alien.... Actress Fran Ryan, 83, of undisclosed causes, Jan. 16, in Burbank. Ryan is best known for her recurring roles as Doris Ziffel on Green Acres and a bag lady on Barney Miller.
