An art film in every sense, this moody bio-drama reveals the cruelty behind the creativity of British painter Francis Bacon (Jacobi), who drank in the art world's praise while allowing his ignored lover George (Craig) to sink into solitary despair. This impressionistic tale is an affecting meditation on loneliness, mortality, and the distance between emotion and genius. B+
