Hear & Now: March 10, 2000

The The's ''NakedSelf'' and Barenaked Ladies' ''$1,000,000'' made news the week of March 10, 2000

What The The?
If you tried to order The The's new album, NakedSelf, from Amazon.com recently, you may have found yourself stymied. We discovered that typing ''The The'' into the online store's system yielded a list of the countless acts with ''The'' in their names. The problem will soon be corrected, says an Amazon.com rep, who jokes, ''When we built our search engine, we didn't think that The The would be releasing another album.''

Bonus Cut
The Barenaked Ladies' 1992 song ''If I Had $1,000,000'' is gaining some belated radio play, thanks to a new version, created by Portland, Ore., DJ Matt Jones, featuring Regis Philbin from the smash TV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. ''Ever since Millionaire came out, people have been asking me why our song wasn't the theme,'' says Ladies' singer-guitarist Steven Page. Philbin (who asked the band to perform the song when they appeared on Live With Regis and Kathie Lee last fall) has heard the new version and is said to be amused by it. And with the growing popularity of ''$1,000,000,'' Reprise Records is considering shooting a video. Page says the Ladies are receptive to the notion. ''We'd probably need to be talked into it, but it could be really funny. They could have us as the Regis Philbin house band, like Paul Shaffer on the Letterman show.'' Sounds like a million-dollar idea to us.
