Eaten Alive

Details Rated: R; Genres: Comedy, Horror; With: Neville Brand and Carolyn Jones; Distributor: Elite Entertainment

From Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper comes the creepy sophomore effort Eaten Alive, a Southern gothic Grand Guignol about a ramshackle hotel's babbling proprietor (a very convincing Neville Brand) who attacks his guests with farm implements before feeding them to a crocodile lurking in the adjacent swamp. Blackly comic elements do little to blunt the unsettling aura created by the garish lighting and intense dentist-drill ''score.'' This no-frills package presents this previously hard-to-find curio in a decent wide-screen transfer, and tacks on a schlocky trailer that boldly courts the Jaws crowd. B
