Stiller the One
No surprise that cash cow Tom Cruise would be
Bobby and Peter Farrelly's first choice to star opposite Gwyneth
Paltrow in their next production, Shallow Hal, a comedy about
the most vapid man on earth, set to start shooting in November.
But if you think Kevin Costner or Brad Pitt would be next in
line, your future as the Farrelly brothers' casting agent looks
bleak: The writer-directors now have their eyes on Ben Stiller,
who also got the girl in There's Something About Mary. ''Our
dream Hal would be Tom, but he's got so many things going on,''
says Peter. ''We love Ben because as a comedic actor playing
Everyman, he's just the best.'' Stiller's rep says that while the
actor is aware of the project, ''there has been no inquiry made
to him.'' In that case, Ben, please send the 10 percent to the
address below.
Pistols Ripped
As the new Charlie's Angels vixens, Cameron Diaz,
Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore are hands-on, and only hands-on,
when it comes to fighting crime. That's because Barrymore, who's
also producing this kinder, gentler big-screen adaptation,
requested that the kitschy chicks not use guns. ''I know this is
going to sound strange, but I think it's cowardly to flick a
finger and kill someone,'' says Barrymore, who seems to have no
problems with violence per se. ''I'm much more interested
in...how different the world would be if people had to kill each
other with their hands.'' Columbia chair Amy Pascal says the
studio was happy to make the appropriate changes by upping the
martial-arts quotient; as for the TV show's infamous silhouetted
profile of the Angels holding weapons, it has been revamped for
the movie's one-sheet with all three posing kung fu style.
