The all-girl alterna-funk trio Luscious Jackson — best known for the '96 hit ''Naked Eye'' — have split amicably after eight years.

LAWSUITS
Catherine Zeta-Jones, 30, was slapped with a civil suit March 29 by ex-friend Petra von Oelffen. As a passenger in Zeta-Jones' Range Rover last August in L.A., Von Oelffen says she broke an ankle when the actress allegedly swerved into a tree to avoid hitting a deer. Zeta-Jones' publicist says all accident claims were referred to her insurance company.

DEATHS
British novelist Anthony Powell, 94, of a stroke, March 28, in Frome, England. Powell's Proustian 12-volume A Dance to the Music of Time follows a generation of well-heeled Brits from World War I to the '70s.... Writer Alex Comfort, 80, of unknown causes, March 26, in Banbury, England. The author of 50 books is best known for 1972's The Joy of Sex, which sold 12 million copies worldwide.... Actress Helen Martin, 90, of a heart attack, March 25, in Monterey, Calif. Cast by Orson Welles in Broadway's 1941 Native Son, she played crotchety neighbor Pearl on NBC's '80s sitcom 227.... Folk singer Ed McCurdy, 81, of heart failure, March 23, in Halifax, Canada. He wrote the '60s anthem ''Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream.''
