The Laramie Project (2012)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Writer: Moises Kaufman; Director: Moises Kaufman

Based on interviews and official records, The Laramie Project traces the tragic story of Matthew Shepard, the 21-year-old student beaten to death because he was gay. The eight actors — who also conducted the interviews — treat theater as journalism. They bend over backward to be objective. And that robs the play of the anger it needs. But this is a compelling and important story. Just the facts are enough to move you to tears. B
