And speaking of marriage, how 'bout that Frasier finale, in which Daphne (Jane Leeves), on the night before her wedding, finally tells Niles (David Hyde Pierce) that she loves him? This kind of hookup had been teased by NBC for so long, for so many different episodes over the life of this series, that even the show's producers were beginning to complain.

But I must say, when the emotional revelation and its concomitant kiss finally arrived, it was a beautiful moment, tender with the ache of long-suppressed ardor. The fact that this leaves Niles (who'd just eloped with Mel) and Daphne (who left poor, likable sap Donny standing at the altar) in the potentially viewer-alienating position of being viewed next season as amoral dual home wreckers — well, that makes this the season finale fraught with more suspense than any TV drama. Which only bodes well for carrying fans along to Frasier's old-new Tuesday-night time-period change come fall: Nothing like the memory of an illicit kiss to carry you through the summer.
