Video Game Distractions -- Stars from Dylan McDermott to Ashton Kutcher pass the time playing Sony PlayStations

Early mornings in the makeup chair. Catered food. Cranky directors. What's a star gotta do to have some fun on the set? Why, spend some QT with that venerable attention grabber, the Sony PlayStation. Celeb fans include Freddie Prinze Jr., David Boreanaz, and Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as the cast of this summer's Civil War-era Western Texas Rangers, starring Dylan McDermott and That '70s Show's Ashton Kutcher, who took a whack at hockey between takes. But why is a four-and-a-half-year-old system (the buzzed-to-death PlayStation 2 arrives in America Oct. 26) still tops in a town known for trend-switching ferocity? ''It's the interactive nature of the product,'' says Molly Smith, PR director for Sony Computer Entertainment America. ''It's so visually compelling, people like to watch other people play.'' Hmmm...sounds like a hobby Hollywood knows all about.
