It's one of the oldest ploys in the ''how to sell an exploitation film'' manual: Cook up a title that's brazen and titillating enough, and someone will get suckered into thinking that the movie can live up to it. The neon-lurid title Live Virgin was designed to catch the eye of consumers perusing the cult/midnight/erotica section of their local video store, and that's no doubt where the picture would have landed had it not happened to feature a preblond, pre-perfect-teeth Mena Suvari, looking even younger than she does in American Beauty. (Live Virgin was shot, and originally shelved, in 1998).

Suvari plays the title jailbait, who rebels against her porno-director father (Robert Loggia) by declaring that she is going to have sex, live and on camera, before a nation of closed-circuit virtual-reality voyeurs. This ''satire'' of triple-X raunch and Jerry Springer sleaze starts off at a pitch of preening dementia and just grows more hysterical from there. Loggia rants and raves, but he's out-blared by Bob Hoskins, who, with his frenzied, pop-eyed belligerence, has become one of the most annoying actors on the planet. D
