Three years after a remarkable indie hip-hop EP manifesto, these L.A. old-school revivalists drop their long-awaited LP. And although critics who dismiss the sextet as rap's Sha Na Na may remain unmoved, there is much to love. The four MCs are playful and progressive (if preachy), and the virtuoso DJs quilt vintage funk with surgical scratching and deep-crate sampling. The anti-star attitude is refreshing, too, except for one thing: It undercuts the star power. B
