THE FILMS OF JOHN SINGLETON

He's a complicated man, and no one understands him but his webmaster... I'm talking about director John Singleton, baby. The moviemaker behind this summer's Shaft has his filmography sized up by L.A.-based online writer (and self-professed friend) Michael Dequina. Much to Dequina's credit, the critiques of Singleton's five-film oeuvre mention what's badass and what's just plain bad. Unfortunately, despite greater-than-usual access to his subject (and lots of on-set photos of Singleton and his stars), Dequina sticks to the basics (reviews, links to official sites), providing little personal data or behind-the-scenes info. Ultimately, fans just get the shaft. B
