SEX SELLS
Sex and the City, the Candace Bushnell book that
became a hit HBO show, has become a book again: St. Martin's
will rush into print an unauthorized companion volume by Sheryl
Berk that will examine ''the things people come away from the
show wanting to know more about,'' according to St. Martin's
executive editor Jennifer Weis. The ''things'' will include dating
do's and don'ts, style tips, and the culture of the singles
scene. ''The show has gone from cult status to mainstream,'' Weis
adds. ''It's not just New York-based anymore.'' Look for the book
in early fall.
YO, IT'S BO!
She may have only one hit movie to her name
(1979's 10), but Bo Derek still has a story to tell. The winsome
star of Bolero and Hot Chocolate, who's been making low-budget
and TV movies since the death of her director husband, John
Derek, two years ago, is busy meeting with publishers about
writing a book called Solo. ''It would be a memoir of her
relationship with John and her whole career,'' says agent David
Vigliano. ''She's never really spoken, and she wants to do it
now.'' Vigliano says he's lined up six publishers so far and
thinks the onetime sex symbol's years out of the limelight
haven't diminished her appeal. ''She's such an icon,'' he says.
''Everybody wants to meet with her.'' Yeah, but do they really
want to discuss her book?... Vigliano is also shopping a
proposed autobiography by L.A. Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal
tentatively titled The Big Saga. The minimum bid, a source says,
is $500,000.
