Lead Performance: The Getaway People; Genre: Pop
B
The transplanted Norwegians The Getaway People have done an uncanny job of absorbing our pop culture. On their second album, the handsome hit-or-miss affair Turnpike Diaries, the New York City area boys shuffle their funky sneaker prints across material that suggests a little Sublime, a little Sugar Ray, and a little Beck. And the single, ''Six Pacs,'' was even chosen to be the theme for The WB's summer replacement series Young Americans. Can't get much more assimilated than that. B
