Lead Performance: Sunny Day Real Estate; Genre: Pop

The trio Sunny Day Real Estate's bombastic dream-pop — which momentarily brightened the dreary mid-'90s grunge landscape — now seems irritatingly irrelevant. Still, a few tracks on The Rising Tide, notably the sublime ''Rain Song'' and evocative ''Disappear,'' prove why the band were once considered arena-rock contenders. But after only a few tracks, the nostalgic kick wears off, and the band's bloated riffs quickly turn tiresome. Time to unload this real estate. C+
