Credits

Isolated from his modern-day-hippie islandmates, Leonardo DiCaprio briefly goes ''Apocalypse Now'' Brando, launching the most inspired sequence of The Beach, an ambling meditation on paradise and innocence lost from ''Trainspotting'' director Danny Boyle. Longing for spiritual and intellectual depth, both DiCaprio's traveler and the film itself suffer from an overabundance of style in the pursuit of substance.
