Boy meets dog an old formula, yes, but Muniz (TV's Malcolm in the Middle) teaches it new tricks, turning in some of the best kid-to-canine chemistry since Old Yeller. Kudos also to Bacon, who expertly communicates quiet pain as his battle-scarred father. With its Forrest Gump-esque score, WWII-era backdrop, and cute-pooch trump card, My Dog Skip, like so many others of its breed, blatantly manipulates your tear ducts and every exquisitely schmaltzy moment is worth its weight in Kleenex. B+
