The Firemen's Ball (2012)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Movie Rated: Unrated; Genre: Foreign Language; With: Josef Svet and Vaclav Stockel; Distributor: Home Vision Cinema

When a local Czech firemen's association throws a party, it's decorum that goes up in flames. Beauty queens are literally dragged to the stage, charity raffle prizes are pilfered, and bawdy couples get it on in the lovably ludicrous comedy The Firemen's Ball — which was nominated for a foreign-language film Oscar — from director Milos Forman (Man on the Moon). The broadly played film is clearly a satire, but, at the time of its release, 40,000 Czech firefighters resigned in protest. B+
