A GOODMAN IS HARD TO FIND
Go figure: When test audiences saw a
preview of Coyote Ugly, the Aug. 4 release in which Piper Perabo and Tyra Banks play beauteous barmaids, they begged for
more...John Goodman. Goodman, who plays the father of Perabo's
character, a wannabe singer, came back for two days of reshoots a
few weeks ago, during which time the film also acquired a new
ending. Says producer Jerry Bruckheimer, ''The audience loved the
bar, and the movie didn't originally end there, so we added a
vignette.'' Not to mention a cameo for the newest crossover
star-in-the-making, country singer LeAnn Rimes, who not only
lends Perabo her on-screen singing voice but now makes an
appearance in the film.

We've discovered Steven Spielberg's Achilles'
heel: The man has absolutely no idea how to finance an
independent film. When his longtime assistant, Marc Fusco,
approached his mentor for advice on finding investors for his
feature debut, Rennie's Landing, ''[Spielberg] said, 'Marc, I don't know anyone in that world. I don't even know how to begin thinking about it.''' Still, Fusco — who rounded up his own
investors — is counting on moral support from the boss when he
begins filming the twentysomething drama (which stars Felicity's Scott Foley) later this summer. ''As soon as we bring the
animatronic monster through the wall and it explodes,'' jokes
Fusco, ''I might need some help.''
BIND DATES
Mike Newell's How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days could lose
its star, Gwyneth Paltrow, if it's not in filming shape by fall.
She's tied up on Neil Labute's Possession until winter, and has
to start the Farrelly brothers' Shallow Hal in April. If Days isn't ready, a source close to the actress says Paltrow is
considering Miramax's View From the Top, about a woman who longs
to be a stewardess.
