Director Paul Verhoeven's now-you-see-Bacon, now-you-don't legerdemain helped Hollow Man pull 26.4 million rabbits out of moviegoer pockets this weekend. Nearly breaking The Sixth Sense's record for August openings ($26.7 million), Hollow Man was the best-ever bow for both Kevin Bacon and Verhoeven. The previous weekend's phattest flick, Eddie Murphy's Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, slimmed down a not-so-healthy 57 percent, earning $18.2 million -- finishing an eye squint ahead of Clint Eastwood's Space Cowboys ($18.1 million) and the Jerry Bruckheimer concoction Coyote Ugly ($17.3 million). Rounding out the top five, What Lies Beneath pulled in $13.8 million, sustaining DreamWorks' dream summer.
