JENNIFER LOPEZ, in New York and L.A., working on her sophomore disc, due in October. No word yet if beau Puffy is providing samples, but producers like Soulshock & Karlin (Whitney Houston, 98[degrees]) will help lay down some dance grooves.

SUGAR RAY, in L.A., developing songs for their as-yet-untitled fourth album; David Kahne, who helmed their last smash, will likely produce.

MONSTER MAGNET, in Vancouver, cutting tracks for their sixth CD, God Says No. The disc is ''stoner rock's answer to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,'' according to one source. Look for the monstrous opus in early 2001.
