Shaggy's made a career out of injecting a touch of his native Jamaica into familiar tunes, and among the 13 tracks of Hot Shot are — egads! — a Caribbean version of ''Angel of the Morning'' and a needless island remix of his own ''Luv Me, Luv Me.'' Surprisingly, his original material is fun and hook-filled, with cuts like the Jam-Lewis-produced ''Dance & Shout'' achieving a nice balance between featherweight hip-hop and the dancehall sound Shaggy grew up with. C+
