Less a brainstorm than a quiet storm, De La Soul's latest, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, doesn't blaze new trails as much as it blithely hopscotches through a chill out lounge of modest beats and a chop shop full of spare samples. Sporting more cool cameos (Chaka Khan, the Beasties' Mike D and Ad Rock) than a political convention, the album is hardly a De La paradigm shifter, but alas, even the great ones have to sit out on the innovation tip sometimes.
