Gimme Shelter

The domestic goddess purchased an estate in Bedford, New York

Martha's Mansion!
Giant lot in tony Bedford, N.Y.
Price: Reportedly $14.5 million

The diva of domesticity will have her home-improving hands full: Martha Stewart is purchasing a rambling, 137-acre estate in Westchester County. (The deal is expected to be finalized this fall.) This spring, Stewart announced plans to leave her home in Westport, Conn., which she said had lost its small-town charm. The new property includes a 3,300-square-foot colonial-style winter house, a 1784 summer home, a wood-shingled guest cottage, barns, a swimming pool, and a greenhouse. Her famous neighbors — including Ralph Lauren, Glenn Close, and author Michael Crichton — can expect their hibiscus-tea-dyed pillowcases any day now.
