In these dog days of late August, Coyote Ugly's move upward was the only chart action to remotely howl about. The soundtrack rose eight notches to No. 11 in its third week; the jury's still out on whether front-loading the album with four new LeAnn Rimes tunes has been more help or hindrance. Joining Coyote in establishing a Southwestern chart motif are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose Californication recently reentered the top 15 for the first time in almost a year. This summer, reruns rule the roost even in music. You had to look all the way down to No. 19 for the week's highest debut, The Source Hip-Hop Awards 2000.
