For all the Beach Boys' oysters, the two dozen contributors to Caroline Now! The Songs of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys dig up their share of clams: They plumb the depths of the band's lesser-known material, and the results aren't always pretty. Eric Matthews, the Aluminum Group, and members of the Pastels and Belle & Sebastian are fitting interpreters, but Alex Chilton's straight reading of Brian's silly baby ditty ''I Wanna Pick You Up'' is preposterous.
